Dead by Daylight’s PTB or Public Test Build is a way for the developers, Behaviour Interactive, to test out new mechanics, balance updates, and chapters before officially releasing them. Unfortunately, not all DBD players can experience the PTB. It’s only available to those with the PC Steam version of the game. So, if you’ve never jumped into a PTB before, or it’s just been a while since you last took a look at one, here’s a quick guide on how to access it.
How to Get the DBD PTB
- First, you’ll of course need to have Steam and DBD installed on your PC.
- Then go to your Steam Library. Find “Library” in the top left corner of Steam, and then scroll down to Dead by Daylight.
- Right-click on the game and choose “Properties”.
- Go down to “Betas” and look for “Beta Participation”.
- Here you should find a drop-down option that says “public-test”.
Once you’ve selected “public-test”, you’ll receive an automatic update to the game. You should now have a version of the game that says Dead by Daylight [public-test] in your Library. Launch this and you’ll be in the PTB.
Will My Progress in the PTB Transfer to the Base Game?
No. Although you will earn progression during the PTB, it won’t transfer over to the normal version of the game. PTBs will often give players Auric Cells to try out different outfits. But any purchase you make will also not transfer over.
